This morning at work I listed to AOL Radio and they had a category of "Songwriters" to listen to. I was in love. I was immediately brought back to my childhood. No these were not songs from the 80s. They were songs that I listened to in the car while my parents were driving. It was either cassettes of their favorites or K-Earth or Arrow 93.1. I always thought my parents had great taste in music. I thank them for my love of Elton John, The Eagles, and Chicago among others. Sitting in my office this morning I was transformed back in time to sitting in the backseat of the car humming along to songs that I had no idea of their meaning. When I listen to them I can now truly appreciate what my parents loved about them.
So this a play list of some of the songs that I heard this morning plus some others that I loved but that I forgot I loved. Let's just say that my love affair with Cat Steven's "The Wind" has been reignited.
I listen to the wind
To the wind of my soul
Where I'll end up well I think,
Only God really knows
I've sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once
No, never, never, never
I listen to my words but
They fall far below
I let my music take me where
My heart wants to go
I swam upon the devil's lake
But never, never never never
I'll never make the same mistake
Also, am I the only girl that dreams that Billy Joel is talking about me when he is singing "Always a Woman"?
She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child, but she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth, but she'll never believe
And she'll take what you give her as long it's free
Yeah, She steals like a thief, but she's always a woman to me
She can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time
Ohhh... and she never gives out
And she never gives in, she just changes her mind
And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding
But she’ll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me
She's frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree
And the most she will do is throw shadows at you,
But she's always a woman to me
Please take a trip down memory lane with me.
