Rodger and I are taking a road trip up the California coast. We left yesterday morning. Our first destination was Cambria for two nights (last night and tonight).
On our drive up here we stopped in Solvang to have a snack and in Morro Bay to walk around.
We arrived at the Cambria Pines Lodge in the late afternoon. We rested for a bit and then went for dinner at the restaurant at the hotel. The food was magnificent, such a great meal! I had the fillet Mignon and Rodger had the Surf and Turf. After dinner we went in the pool and jacuzzi and then looked at the stars for a bit.
This morning we were off to Hearst Castle for our tour. I have been there before but it was the first time for Rodger. We went on one of the guided tours through the sitting room, dining room, another sitting room, billiards room, and theater of the castle. After the tour is over they let you walk around the grounds of castle for as long as you want. We checked out the gardens, the outside of the castle, the outside of the guest cottages, the two pools, and the tennis courts.

After Hearst Castle we drove a little further up the coast to check out the Elephant Seals. My family and I had been here before but when we went you could walk on the beach and get really close to them but now they have built a walkway to keep people at a distance. Regardless, it is quite the site to see. They are enormous creatures that are really cool to watch. Mostly it seems they sleep, but we did see a few of them fighting and moving their big bodies up the beach.
We made our way back down the coast for some lunch in Cambria, then some shopping in Morro Bay, then back up the coast to our hotel. We enjoyed another nice evening of dinner at the hotel restaurant (such great food), a nature walk where we saw two deer, and the pool and jacuzzi. Now we are back in the room gearing up for our drive to Big Sir and Monterey tomorrow.
